CIY: Monday
June 22nd, 2009 § 1 Comment
Hello all who take time to read this lovely (well at least I hope it is) page. I am at CIY conference this week and will be blogging every night and sharing what goes on here.
So tonight was our first back here in Durango Colorado. The day was hot and the night is cold, but overall we are having a blast. Our first topic was IDENTITY, and how shouldn’t let our “lables” define who we are, also how we should cast aside all those identities that we wish not to have.
This reminded me of the movie Fight Club. Poor Marla Singer.
If you don’t already know that movie is about an insomniac, Tyler Durden, who has some major IDENTITY issues inside of himself and ends up hurting a particular girl because of it. This girl’s name is Marla Singer. Tyler doesn’t know he has a split personality, which makes his relationship with Marla quite demanding of her, and ends of confusing the shit out of her while hurting her insides very much. (If you have not seen it, I recommend watching it, if only to enhance this text’s meaning)
I see this as a parallel to our IDENTITIES, and how if we try to put on too many “label’s”, or try to cover up our true label’s we are going to end up confusing people and pushing them away, this can even be God.
It’s frustrating to see, throughout the movie, Marla get thrown around by this dude, when she doesn’t know what is going on. I feel for her, and she is fictional for pete’s sake. She never knows how to act, and is always guessing at what kind of person is coming out next for her she never really gets a chance to enjoy the realtionship.
Enjoy your relationship.
